Short biography

István Kollár was Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Department of Measurement and Information Systems at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary. He completed graduate studies at this university. He received his Cand. Sci. (PhD) degree in 1985 and his Dr. Acad. degree in 1998, both from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He was a Visiting Researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 1989-1990, and a Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Associate Professor at Stanford University, California, in 1993-1995.
His research fields were digital signal processing and system identification. He has developed the program package „Frequency Domain System Identification Toolbox for MATLAB”, which made new and powerful methods of system identification widely available. He intensively works in the fields of quantization theory and ADC testing, the latter mostly aimed at improvements and MATLAB-based implementation of the IEEE standards 1057 and 1241. He was an active member of EUPAS (European Project for ADC-based devices Standardisation). He has published a book (Quantization Noise, with B. Widrow), 3 book chapters and over 100 papers, many of them in IEEE Trans. on Instrumentation and Measurement, and at IMTCs.
