Short biography

Professor Janusz Mindykowski was born in Poland in 1950. He received the M.Sc. and PhD. Degrees in electrical engineering from the Gdańsk University of Technology, Poland, in 1974 and 1981, respectively, and the D.Sc. Degree from Warsaw University of Technology, Poland, in 1993 and the Professor’s title – in 2002 from the President of the Republic of Poland.

He is currently a Head of Marine Electrical Power Engineering Department (since 1994), Gdynia Maritime University and since 2002 a full professor of this University. From 1985 to 1990 he was the Associate Dean teaching at the Faculty of Marine Electrical Engineering. From 1990 to 1993 and from 2005 to 2012 - Dean of this Faculty. From 1993 to 1996 University co-ordinator for Scientific Research, and from 1996 to 2002 and from 2012 to 2016 Vice-Rector for Scientific Research and International Co-operation.

His main research interests are concentrated on measurement aspects of technical systems operation and diagnosis, mainly ship’s systems. A key point of his research is focused on power quality problems. He has published about 260 papers (more than 60 in journals and conference proceedings indexed in the Web of Science base) and 12 monographs and academic books on the area of his scientific activity. The carried out research has been supported by 21 achieved patents (including 1 Chinese patent) and several expertises and industrial implementations.

He has been a co-ordinator or principal contractor in 24 research projects (17 ones with the international co-operation, including 2 European Framework projects and 3 International Association of Maritime Universities – IAMU projects).

Janusz Mindykowski is a Fellow Member (1994-2013) of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET, before IEE), a Senior Member (2013) of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) I&M and PES societies, Chapter Chairman of Polish Section IEEE-I&M (2008-2012); a Scientific Secretary (2006-2009), Deputy Chairman (2009-2012) and a Chairman (2012-2015) of IMEKO Technical Committee on Measurement of Electrical Quantities (TC4). He is also the Member of the Committee for Metrology and Instrumentation, Polish Academy of Sciences (2003 - 2015), the Member of the Technical Board of Polish Register of Shipping (since 2001), the Member of Metrology Council at the Central Office of Measures, Poland (since 2016), Honorary Professor of Shanghai Maritime University China (2006, Doctor Honoris Causa of „Georghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi, Romania (2018)).
