Measurement Science

The International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO) is a non-governmental federation of 36 Member Organisations concerned with the advancement of measurement science and technology. Its fundamental objectives are related to the promotion of international exchange of scientific and technical information in the field of measurement and instrumentation, and to the enhancement of international cooperation among scientists and engineers from academe and industry.

Founded in 1958, the Confederation has a consultative status with UNESCO and UNIDO, and is one of the five sister federations (together with International Federation of Automatic Control, International Federation for Information Processing, International Federation of Operational Research Societies and International Association for Mathematics and Computers in Simulation).

The activity of IMEKO is basically carried out through Technical Committees (TCs) that organise symposia, conferences, workshops, and seminars on specific topics; publish proceedings of those events, textbooks, glossaries, and studies. The activities of each Committee are focused on a special or dedicated field of measurement.

TC7, the Committee established in 1973 under the name Measurement Theory and in 1993 redesignated as Measurement Science, is concerned with the development of measurement science.
