IMEKO TC20 Measurement Techniques for the Construction Industry - AIMS

The aim of TC20 is to promote Modern Measuring Techniques in its development
for the application in civil engineering.

Main scopes are:

Measurement techniques needed in the field of civil engineering: surveying tasks and supervision during construction, research and development of new materials, systems and methods, analysis, maintenance and monitoring of structures. .
Structure health monitoring is of major and growing importance for the construction industry: today poor assessment, only nearly visual and highly subjective, for the future automatic inspection by means of innovative measurement techniques. .
Scopes of monitoring: deformation and force measurement, concentration of chemical species as moisture, chloride, pH, etc., corrosion, sensor development is essential (data acquisition, evaluation have to be improved, strategies and decision making are required).
Highlights of TC work in the future: improve sensor development and monitoring strategies, build an interface between metrology (measurement engineering) and civil engineering.
