TC12 provides a forum for an international exchange of opinions among experts in the field of temperature and thermal measurements, discussing the main trends of research, development and application. Attention is not only paid to sensors and to new measurement methods, but also to the instrumentation for temperature and thermal measurements. Emphasis is given to accurate measurements and to the improvement of efficiency in scientific, industrial, environmental, medical applications. |

It has been a great privilege for me to be assigned the role of “TC12 Information Officer” during the TC12 meeting at the TEMPMEKO-ISHM Symposium in Portorož in June 2010. My intention is to open this web site and the TC12 Newsletter to the contribution of all the members and to offer the possibility to host ideas, proposals and discussions on the multiple aspects of temperature metrology and applications. While the site will be mainly focussed on TC12 activities, reports on relevant projects and experiments, results, future events and news relevant to the temperature and thermal measurement community will be hosted too. I therefore encorage our readers to send news and short articles of potential general interest to the community. I personally hope with this TC12 site and its Newsletter that we will increase the exchange of information and help the circulation of ideas, soliciting cooperation and joint projects on both traditional and new aspects of our research activities.

The first joint event of TEMPMEKO and ISHM was held on May 31st-June 4th at the Grand Hotel Bernardin in Portorož, Slovenia. After the previous editions in Lake Louise, Canada (TEMPMEKO 2007) and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (ISHM 2006), agreement was reached to hold a joint symposium in Europe. Over the four days of the conference, the 303 attendees from 49 countries presented a total of 349 contributions. We had 5 very interesting plenary lectures attracting the broadest audience. The scientific program ran from Monday morning to Thursday evening with 138 oral and 206 poster presentations. The Conference dinner marked the closing of TEMPMEKO&ISHM 2010, with the announcement of the venue for the next TEMPMEKO in 2013. More detailed information on the event is available in the conference website www.tempmeko-ishm.org and in the TC12 Newsletter of September 2010, freely available for download in another section of this website. |
